Cookie Policy
Last updated: 23 April 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how The Candle Co. uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our store.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small pieces of data stored in your browser when you visit a website. They help the website remember your preferences, keep you logged in, remember what's in your cart, and understand how the site is being used.
Our store uses browser storage (sessionStorage and localStorage) rather than traditional third-party tracking cookies for most of its functionality. These work similarly to cookies but are typically scoped to our store and do not follow you around the web.
Essential cookies and storage
These are necessary for our store to work. They cannot be turned off.
| Purpose | What we store | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping cart | Items you've added to your cart so they're still there when you check out | sessionStorage (cleared when you close your browser) |
| Session tracking | A random anonymous session ID used to group pageviews from the same visit | sessionStorage |
| Cookie consent | Your choice to accept or reject non-essential tracking | localStorage |
Analytics cookies and storage
These help us understand how our store is used — which pages are popular, how customers navigate, and where we can improve. They only activate if you accept cookies via our consent banner.
| Purpose | What we collect |
|---|---|
| Page visits | Which pages are viewed and when |
| Session flow | How many unique visits the store receives |
| Product interest | Which products are viewed most |
Analytics data is anonymised — we do not link it to your name, email, or payment information.
Third-party services
Some third-party services we rely on may set their own cookies when you interact with them:
- Payment processor — when you check out, our payment provider may set cookies for fraud prevention and security. See their privacy policy for details.
- Email service — if you open or click links in our emails, our email service may set cookies to track email engagement.
These services operate under their own privacy and cookie policies.
Managing your preferences
When you first visit our store, a banner appears asking whether you want to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is saved and respected on future visits.
You can also:
- Clear your browser data to reset your choice and see the banner again
- Block cookies in your browser settings — note this may affect essential features like the shopping cart
- Use private/incognito mode — cookies and storage are cleared when you close the window
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
